Advance Your Career With A Formal Qualification In Policing

The Diploma: The Qualification in Policing falls under the Department of Safety and Security Management in the Faculty of Humanities at the University. Safety and Security Management is the scientific study of specific government departments, namely the Police, Correctional Services and Traffic Institutions as well as related issues.

The purpose of the Diploma in Policing Qualification is for students to acquire specialist theoretical and applied knowledge about Policing within public and private law enforcement environments and the broader justice system at local, regional and national levels. The themes that are covered within the curriculum include investigation of crime, criminology, current and emerging issues in policing and management leadership in policing.

The qualification targets School levers as well as police and security practitioners from the public and private sectors who have an interest in gaining a formal qualification in Policing to advance their careers through building knowledge and skills in crime investigation, policing matters, criminology and management and leadership in the safety and security policing management field. The Qualification will appeal to School levers, police personnel, security officers and other governmental employees who work in safety and security management fields who seek a formal Policing Qualification.

For Applicants Who Obtained A Senior Certificate Before 2008:

Admission Requirement(s):

  • A Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification, with English at the Higher Grade (D symbol) and two other subjects at the Higher Grade, one of which (excluding English) with a D symbol.
  • Applicants who are employed full time: Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification.

Selection Criteria:

Applicants who score 24 or more points (for a maximum of six subjects) according to the formula for academic merit will be considered.

For Applicants Who Obtained A National Senior Certificate In Or After 2008:

Admission Requirement(s):

  • A National Senior Certificate with an endorsement of a bachelor’s degree or a diploma or an equivalent qualification with an achievement level of at least 3 for English (home language or first additional language) and 3 for Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy.

Selection Criteria:

To be considered for this qualification, applicants must have an Admission Points Score (APS) of at least 20.
