The Diploma: The Qualification in Policing falls under the Department of Safety and Security Management in the Faculty of Humanities at the University. Safety and Security Management is the scientific study of specific government departments, namely the Police, Correctional Services, and Traffic Institutions as well as related issues.

The Diploma in Policing Qualification is designed to provide students with advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of policing in public and private law enforcement settings, as well as the broader judicial system at the local, regional, and national levels. Investigation of crime, criminology, current and emerging concerns in policing, and managerial leadership in policing are only a few of the topics addressed in the curriculum.

The qualification is aimed at school leaders, as well as police and security practitioners from the public and private sectors, who want to advance their careers by gaining formal training in crime investigation, policing matters, criminology and management, and leadership in the field of safety and security policing management. The Qualification will appeal to school administrators, police officers, security officers, and other government employees who work in the fields of safety and security management and are looking for a formal policing qualification.

For Applicants Who Obtained A Senior Certificate Before 2008:

Admission Requirement(s):

  • A Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification, with English at the Higher Grade (D symbol) and two other subjects at the Higher Grade, one of which (excluding English) with a D symbol.
  • Applicants who are employed full time: Senior Certificate or an equivalent qualification.

Selection Criteria:

Applicants who score 24 or more points (for a maximum of six subjects) according to the formula for academic merit will be considered.

For Applicants Who Obtained A National Senior Certificate In Or After 2008:

Admission Requirement(s):

  • A National Senior Certificate with an endorsement of a bachelor’s degree or a diploma or an equivalent qualification with an achievement level of at least 3 for English (home language or first additional language) and 3 for Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy. TUT Diploma in Policing

Selection Criteria:

To be considered for this qualification, applicants must have an Admission Points Score (APS) of at least 20.

  • Policing l
  • Investigation of Crime l
  • Law: Policing l

Plus ONE of the following elective subjects:

  • Criminology l
  • Management Leadership: Policing l

Second-year compulsory module:

  • Policing ll

Plus ONE of the following elective subjects:

  • Criminology ll
  • Investigation of Crime ll
  • Management Leadership: Policing ll
