The goals and functions of the Tshwane University of Technology are unique. TUT, being duly concerned about the country’s need for human resources, has as its chief objective the provision of training and education at a tertiary level for the application of technology in the work situation. The primary functions of the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) can be summarized as follows:
The Tshwane University of Technology strives not only towards the promotion of knowledge and skills but also, especially, towards the application of such knowledge and the development and releasing of means for the application of that knowledge in the training of manpower, emphasizing the practical and the vocational. As a result of the rapid progress in the fields of technology and science, continuous interaction between vocational education and its practical application is essential. This is why a sound relationship is maintained between the Tshwane University of Technology and other Universities. Employers, businessmen, and industrialists play an important role in the management and counselling structures of TUT.
It is the task of the Tshwane University of Technology to train students as thoroughly as possible in specific professions by combining study and practical work experience (cooperative education). The emphasis is on the practical application of knowledge and skills.
The formal side of vocational education is continuously being put to the test in the practical work situation. For this reason, the principle of cooperative education constantly receives attention. At TUT University, students, therefore, alternate their studies with the application of their acquired knowledge and skills in the work situation.

TUT Application 2025 Opening Date
Applications to the Tshwane University of Technology for the 2025 academic year open in March 2025 excluding international application and specific programmes. Student applicants cannot apply before the TUT application is opened.
TUT Online Application 2025 Closing Date
Applications to the Tshwane University of Technology for study admission for the 2025 academic year will close in September 2025 for most courses and 15 June and 31 July for select programmes. Interested applicants cannot submit applications after the deadline.
TUT Application Fee for 2025-2026
A non-refundable application fee of R240 is required for the TUT online application 2025-2026. It must be submitted with your application form. This fee covers the administrative costs of processing application forms and is non-refundable if your application is rejected.

Minimum general admission requirements for study at TUT
No person may be registered as a student in a programme of TUT unless he or she has complied with the following
General admission requirements for TUT
- A pass mark in English at Senior Certificate level (minimum additional language; certain programmes may require first or home language status)
- Each course has its specific admission requirements.
- Prospective students should note that the admission requirements of individual programmes could change from year to year.
- For some programmes, students will be required to write an admission test, which will determine whether they will be admitted to the programme, or whether it will be recommended to them that they enrol for a relevant foundation course.

Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy?

TUT position:
- Mathematics is relevant to programmes that require prior knowledge of mathematics; all others may only require Mathematical Literacy. (Details of what each subject entails can be determined by looking at the DoE curriculum statements, available on the DoE website).

- To the consent form, click ‘I Accept.’
