Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) offers a range of bridging courses designed to help students who do not meet the direct entry requirements for their chosen program. These courses provide a pathway for students to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their studies and ultimately achieve their career goals.
What are Bridging Courses?
Bridging courses are short courses which cover assumed knowledge for HSC subjects that are required for some tertiary degrees. If you do not have the assumed knowledge for your course, we strongly recommend that you undertake the relevant bridging courses. They are designed to equip students with the necessary skills, knowledge, and competencies to succeed in their chosen field.

TUT offers a wide range of bridging courses in various fields including;

- Humanities
- Education
Environmental Management Inspectors Bridging Course for Environmental Health Practitioners
Entrance Requirements
The following entry requirements were agreed upon by the above parties that signed the memorandum of understanding:
- Registration as an environmental health practitioner (independent practice) at the HPCSA
- Employed by a Municipality as an environmental health practitioner
- Successful completion of a peace officers course
The focus will be placed on delegates for the following three provinces: Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo- and North West provinces respectively. To ensure equal opportunity to delegates from the respective geographical areas a maximum of 4 delegates per Municipality per contact time will be allowed. The contact time of the programme will be 5 days X 8 hours (5 days). It will be non-credit-bearing.
Course Material
Course material in electronic format will be made available to participants in advance of the start of the programme as it will be required for participants to compile a pre-course assignment to demonstrate pre-knowledge. This assignment will have to be handed in on the day of the start of the programme.
Cost
The cost for registration will be kept as low as possible to ensure affordability for municipal al delegates to maximise the number of employees to participate. The programme intake will be 40 students per course and depending on the resource availability; it will be repeated twice a year.
How To Apply For TUT Bridging Courses
To Apply for a bridge Course at TUT, the Applicant must meet the minimum entry requirement, which includes;
- A national Senior Certificate or equivalent
- A minimum of 30% in the relevant subject area
- English Language proficiency
