NSFAS PREPARES TO OPEN 2025 APPLICATIONS, NSFAS Application 2025 opening date

The Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, Dr Blade Nzimande, has given the green light for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) to start online applications for 2025.

The NSFAS online applications for 2025 are for students who need government assistance to continue their education at one of the 25 public universities or 50 TVET colleges, including those who have previously studied without NSFAS.

Minister Nzimande paid a visit to the NSFAS headquarters in Cape Town on Tuesday, October 26 to examine the readiness of the online application system for first-time students and returning students who previously studied without NSFAS in 2025.

“I am fairly convinced from the demonstration I have seen, that we are ready to start the 2025 online application for qualified students,” the Minister added, praising the system upgrades and major considerations to streamline the application system process for eligible students.

Preparing For The Application

• Gather Necessary Documents:

Collect all required documentation such as certified copies of your ID, proof of income and academic records.

• Check Eligibility:

Verify that you meet all the eligibility criteria before starting the application

• Create an Account:

Set up an account on the NSFAS website and familiarize yourself with the application portal.

• Seek Assistance if needed:

if you encounter any difficulties during the application process, NSFAS offers support through their helpline and online resources.

Mr Ernest Khosa, NSFAS Board Chairperson, commented on Dr Blade Nzimande’s approval of the opening of the online applications for 2025, saying that the approval by the Minister to allow NSFAS to open the 2025 online application is an indication that the public entity is moving in the right direction.

“We are grateful for the Minister’s confidence and support for the new NSFAS Board and management. Our team has shown the Minister the phases each application will go through when it is filed. Mr Ernest Khosa said, “We were able to tell the Minister that we are considerably better prepared to deal with any issues that may arise.”

Minister Nzimande will soon brief the public on the 2025 online application’s opening date. On the day of the briefing, more information on the system enhancements and application processes will be made available.
