Application form for transport allowances to NSFAS students residing at home

NSFAS-qualifying students living at home may be eligible for a transportation stipend under the DHET funding policies/guidelines. To be eligible, students must indicate that they are not currently residing in any TUT-managed or private housing. Only if the signed paperwork is presented to the college Financial Aid Office will funds be issued (FAO)

Application form for NSFAS students residing in Private Leased Accommodation

NSFAS-qualifying students residing in privately rented housing may be eligible for an accommodation stipend, according to the DHET financing policies/guidelines announced in January. To be eligible, students must submit a signed lease agreement along with this form to the university Financial Aid Office (FAO).

Applying for NSFAS study assistance in 2025-2026

Please note that financial assistance is only considered for students who have been accepted at a higher learning institution and meet all the requirements to study towards higher education.

You qualify to apply for a bursary if:

You are a South African citizen;
Your combined annual household income does not exceed R350 000 per annum;
You are a SASSA grant recipient;
You are registering for the first time for an undergraduate qualification at a public university or you are registered at a TVET college for one of the National Certificate Vocational or Report 191 programmes;
You are applying to study at a public university or TVET college for a qualification;
You are an already registered university student with an annual household income of less than R122 000 per year;
You have passed Grades 9 & 10 to receive NSFAS funding to study at a TVET college;
You have passed Grade 12 to receive NSFAS funding to study at a university.

Who should not apply?

Students that have completed a previous qualification.
Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
Students who have already applied, qualified and received funding. They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.
Foreign students (any student who is not a South African citizen).

Application Process from NSFAS

The application process for NSFAS funding at TUT for the year 2025-2026 academic year typically involves the following steps;

Online application: Prospective students must complete the online NSFAS application form on the NSFAS website or the TUT students portal.
Submission of Supporting Documents: Applicants are required to submit certified copies of their identification documents, proof of household income, academic transcripts and other supporting documents as required.
Assessment and Approval: Once the application and supporting documents have been submitted, NSFAS will assess the application based on the eligibility criteria and notify successful applicants of their funding status.
Disbursement of Funds: Approved NSFAS funds will. be disbursed directly to TUT to cover tuition fees, accommodation and other related expenses as stipulated by the scheme.
