Tshwane University of Technology offers various programs across faculties, allowing you to explore diverse academic options. To enrol in the program, you will need to meet specific admission requirements, including academic qualifications, minimum scores and additional documents.

Prospective students must meet the university’s entrance requirements for the particular academic year to be admitted to TUT. The minimum requirements for admission to TUT are as follows:

Ensure you have these documents ready for online application at TUT:

Certified copies:

  • Identity document
  • Senior Certificate/National Senior Certificate and any other relevant documents
  • Grade 11 report
  • Proof of payment: Non-refundable application fee of R240
  • Sending documents via fax or email is not required.
  • Scanned documents must be in PDF, Doc, Docx, TIFF, PNG, JPG or JPEG format for upload through the application portal.

Admission Requirements

Minimum Entry Requirements for Higher Certificates:

Possession of a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a minimum of 30% in the language of learning and teaching at the institution, as certified by Umalusi (Council for General and Further Education and Training).

Depending on the specific program, additional requirements may be in place, such as attaining a specific level of achievement in relevant NSC subjects. For instance, a Higher Certificate in Architectural Design might require a certain level of attainment in Design and a related subject alongside the NSC.

TUT Minimum Entry Requirements for Diploma Programmes:

Minimum Requirements:

A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with at least 30% in the language of learning and teaching of the university, certified by Umalusi. An achievement rating of 3 (40-49%) or better in four recognized 20-credit NSC subjects.

Additional Requirements:

Specific programs may require specific subject combinations and achievement levels. For example, a Diploma in Data Analytics might require a pass at a specific level in Mathematics or Information Technology.

TUT Minimum Entry Requirements for Bachelor’s Degree:

The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) requires applicants for Bachelor’s degrees to possess a National Senior Certificate (NSC) with a minimum achievement rating of:

30% in the language of learning and teaching used by the institution, as certified by Umalusi. 4 (Adequate Achievement, 50-59%) or better in four recognized 20-credit NSC subjects.

It’s important to note that these are minimum requirements and specific programs may have additional requirements.

No person may be registered as a student in a program of TUT unless he or she has complied with the following

  • Each course has its specific admission requirements.
  • Prospective students should note that the admission requirements of individual programs could change from year to year.
  • For some programs, students will be required to write an admission test, which will determine whether they will be admitted to the program, or whether it will be recommended to them that they enrol in a relevant foundation course.

​​Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy?

All learners are required to take one of the two subjects for NSC-G purposes

​​TUT position:

  • Mathematics is relevant to programs that require prior knowledge of mathematics; all others may only require Mathematical Literacy. (Details of what each subject entails can be determined by looking at the DoE curriculum statements, available on the DoE website).

General rule:

Minimum requirement: A pass mark in English at the Senior Certificate level is typically considered to be 40%. This is usually the minimum requirement for most programs, but it’s important to check with the specific program you’re interested in for confirmation.

  • Your Proof of payment of any relevant application fees
  • A Certified copy of grade 11 results and any latest grade 12 results

  • To gain admission, a fully completed application form and recently certified copies of your original identity document and (National) Senior Certificate and/or highest academic results (certification may not be not older than one year) as well as the administration fee, must reach TUT before the specified closing dates for 2025-2026.​​
  • All Applicants should take note that Late applications will be considered only if there is space available in the programs concerned. TUT can accommodate only a limited number of students per program.
