University of Toronto Graduate Application 2025-2026

Begin your journey to a graduate degree in Cell and Systems Biology at the University of Toronto by engaging with our streamlined Online Admissions Procedure. This digital portal, anchored within the University’s secure server, is your first step toward submitting your application to the School of Graduate Studies (SGS).

Your application journey commences once you’ve entered your personal and academic details, paid the application fee, and uploaded the necessary supporting documentation online. *An important note: Official hard copies of your transcripts will only be requested if you are extended an offer of admission.

Upon initiating your SGS online application, you will be assigned a unique applicant identification number and a secure password via email. This login information allows you to edit and review your application at any stage before the payment process. Post-payment, this same portal serves to keep you informed about the status of your application and receipt of your supporting documents.

Your application gains validity only after the application fee is received, which can be conveniently paid with VISA or MasterCard through a secure payment platform administered by Mirpay, a certified payment processor. Rest assured, your credit card details remain confidential and inaccessible to both SGS and the University of Toronto as Mirpay only shares payment confirmation. Note that disabling popup blockers is necessary during this process.

For the admissions cycle targeting September 2025 and January 2026 nts, and February 15th, 2025, for domestic applicants:

  • A concise, one-page personal statement outlining your passion for Cell and Systems Biology, your career objectives, and why you’ve chosen this specific department at the University of Toronto for your graduate studies. This should include potential supervisors you’re interested in working with and your preferred research domains.
  • An updated résumé or curriculum vitae.
  • Three reference letters, which should be uploaded directly by your referees following the instructions they’ll receive via email once you’ve completed your application and settled the fee. While postal submissions are an option, online submission is highly preferred for efficiency and security.
  • Scanned copies of academic transcripts from every post-secondary institution you’ve attended.
  • GRE results are optional for those who have not earned a degree in Canada. These scores are considered supplementary and no minimum threshold is enforced.

For international applicants from non-English speaking institutions, proof of English proficiency through standardized tests like the TOEFL is mandatory. Some applicants from English-speaking countries may also need to provide these scores. All test scores must be sent directly to the University of Toronto (Enrolment Services) electronically from the testing agency, using institution code 0982.

*Do consult the website for detailed minimum score requirements for each English proficiency test, as these are rigidly applied.

Should there be any doubts regarding the international equivalence of your academic qualifications, our International Degree Equivalencies Tool is available to assist you.

  • Upon receiving an admission offer, you will be required to send official, sealed, and signed academic transcripts from all attended universities to the Graduate Office of the Department of Cell & Systems Biology. For current or past students of the University of Toronto, this step is waived.

To embark on your application, please proceed to the SGS Online Admissions Application.

We advise against applying to both the Master’s and Ph.D. programs simultaneously. If you opt for the Master’s program initially but later wish to be considered for Direct Entry PhD, adjustments can be made by contacting the CSB Graduate Office.

For more information or assistance, please reach out to the Graduate Office at the Department of Cell & Systems Biology or send an email to grad.csb@utoronto.ca
