TUT Agriculture Sciences

In the field of agricultural sciences, they boast one of the largest training facilities of its kind in South Africa and one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. We are one of the few higher education institutions in the country to offer the full range of agricultural courses including Crop Production, Mixed Farming, Rural Development and Extension, Agricultural Management, Animal Production, Equine Science, Nature Conservation, Ecotourism Management, Game Ranch Management, Horticulture, Landscape Technology, and numerous other specialised courses.

The faculty’s health-related course material is designed to address the needs of the community and industry. The subject content of every qualification is guided by an Advisory Committee, consisting of leading professionals from the industry, and is presented by enthusiastic and proficient staff. As with all other programmes within the faculty, degrees can be obtained in the fields of Sport and Physical Rehabilitation Sciences, Environmental Health, Biomedical Sciences, Dental Sciences, Nursing, and Pharmacy.

FOR APPLICANTS WHO OBTAINED A NATIONAL SENIOR CERTIFICATE IN OR AFTER 2008:

Admission requirement(s):

A Postgraduate Diploma in Agriculture, or a Baccalaureus Technologiae: Agriculture, or a Bachelor Honours degree in Agriculture from a South African university in the related or envisaged field of study of the applicant.

Holders of any other equivalent South African or international qualification may also be considered, see Chapter 1 of Students’ Rules and Regulations.

Candidates with a baccalaureate technologies degree will be required to complete the module Advanced Research Methodology (Proposal) (PRM51BP) at NQF Level 9 and/or one of the following modules:

Research Methodology (Biometry) (BRM51BP) at NQF Level 8, and/or
Research Methodology (Theory) (TRM51BP) at NQF Level 8.

Modules are offered as prescribed by the academic department and could be done before or concurrently with this Master’s programme.

Recommended subject(s):
Agricultural subject. Preference will be given to applicants in Biology and/or Physical Sciences.

Selection criteria:

Selection based on a personal interview with a departmental selection panel may be required in certain programmes. Details regarding selection interviews are obtainable from specific departments. Registration before the approval of a research proposal is provisional and will be officially ratified only when the proposal is approved by the Faculty Committee for Postgraduate Studies. These procedures will be fully explained to prospective candidates before registration.

Acceptance is subject to available capacity according to the Student Enrolment Plan (SEP) as well as supervisory capacity. Applicants will be informed of their status per an official letter from the Office of the Registrar, alternatively, they can check their application status on the TUT website, www.tut.ac.za.
