2022 Application form for transport allowances to NSFAS students residing at home

NSFAS-qualified students living at home may be eligible for a transportation allowance under the DHET funding policies/guidelines. To be eligible, students must confirm that they are not currently residing in any TUT-managed or private housing. Only if the signed document is sent to the campus Financial Aid Office will funds be issued (FAO).

2024 Application form for NSFAS students residing in Private Leased Accommodation

NSFAS-qualified students living in privately rented housing may be eligible for an accommodation grant, according to the DHET funding policies/guidelines published on January 25, 2022. To be eligible, students must apply a signed lease agreement along with this form to the campus Financial Aid Office (FAO).

If you are one of the NSFAS 2024 applicants whose application was unsuccessful and you have submitted an appeal, you may check your application results by logging into your myNSFAS account.

Applying for NSFAS 2024 Study Assistance: NSFAS Application Status

Please keep in mind that financial aid is only considered for students who have been admitted to a higher learning institution and who fulfill all of the criteria to pursue a degree.

You qualify to apply for a bursary if:

  • You are a South African citizen;
  • Your combined annual household income does not exceed R350 000 per annum;
  • You are a SASSA grant recipient;
  • You are registering for the first time for an undergraduate qualification at a public university or you are registered at a TVET college for one of the National Certificate Vocational or report 191 programmes;
  • You are applying to study at a public university or TVET college for a qualification;
  • You are an already registered university student with an annual household income of less than R122 000 per year;
  • You have passed Grades 9 & 10 to receive NSFAS funding to study at a TVET college;
  • You have passed Grade 12 to receive NSFAS funding to study at a university.

Who should not apply?

  • Students that have completed a previous qualification.
  • Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
  • Students who have already applied, qualified and received funding. They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.
  • Foreign students (any student who is not a South African citizen).
